Ice Skating

I m still waiting for a response from the University of Tasmania if I can do my last rotation in Tassie. It is a long process and I have to say I get more and more grey hair over it... I m just so NOT patient...
Not only waiting for a reply also a lack of knowledge about what to prepare and when. Time is ticking: the beginning of that final part of my studies is supposed to be beginning of December.... and I still havent booked a flight, no visa or anything...

My dissertation is progressing though.... Having spent most of last and this weekend on excell tables, diagramms - feels like being married to my laptop :-)

Damaris came on Friday to see me. We used to work together in the German Medical Students Association and had fun 2 years with a lot of travelling. Since we dont study in the same town we hardly see eachother nowadays but I felt like nothing has changed. We went with some of the nurses from the Geriatric ward and Antje to an ice skating arena and had a lot of laughters and fun skating round after round and having this seasons first hot wine (Glühwein)...

Salzburg

Last weekend we went to Salzburg- the town of Mozart, numerous festivals, the "Sound of Music" and much much more. Cindy and her daughter Audrey joined us.
On Friday we only drove till Stuttgart where Cindy welcomed us with a very tasty chicken!
We watched "Sound of Music" at Cindy's so we were prepared for the town where they shot that musical movie.

Arring in Salzburg noonish on Saturday, we had a little Italian style lunch with Pizza and off we went to the Ice Caves about 30 km from Salzburg. I probably never forget the crazy bubbling and giggling of our tour guide. First we had to climb and ride (cable car) up the mountain and after a little walk, we got rewared with a breath-taking one hour experience in Europes largest Ice Cave...

Afterwards we went to St Peters Church where the Stiftskeller St Peters is situated: the oldest restaurant in town dating back more than 1200 years. We had a flawless 3-course menu that was based on traditional reciepes from the 18th century:

- Cream soup with the fine taste of lemons and cinnamon
- Breast of roasted Capon* on truffled cream of sage with polenta, potato stuffed pear and vegetables from Pater Prior´s garden
- Mozarts Sweet Secret
Semi-frozen parfait of forestal honey with fruit and caramel sauce

But the really great part of the experience were the intermissions: the most famous arias and duettos by Mozart performed by opera singers.

Happy and with a full stomach we all slept were well and after having a strengenthing breakfast we were picked up for the "Sound of Music" bus tour through Salzburg and sourrounding beautiful landscape.
We spent a lovely afternoon exploring the town and parks a little bit better left the beautiful city to get back (needless to say that we hit three traffic jams....).

************************

I do have about 6 more weeks at the geriatric ward where I am working right now. By the end of the week I hope to get a positive reply from Tasmania where I applied to do my last rotation of my studies.... Keep all your fingers crossed for me!

And a big hug to Charly in Chur! Hope you enjoy your Swiss experience as much as I did!

Autumn comes

Instead of excusing myself for not updating my blog I m just doing it without any excuses......

Well, after Isabella has left I onbly had a short week: 3rd of October is Reunification Day - a public holiday in Germany and thanks to 2 additional days that I could take off, I had a looong weekend. I went home to see my family and we had a little belated birthday party for my younger brother and I helped my mom with some computer stuff.
We also did a little excursion. We went to what is now Poland and where my grandparents grew up - they explained and showed us where they grew up, played, used to go to school, where to get their bread and milk from, ... very interessting to know where your roots come from. I also started recentely to explore my family tree.
With the help of my grandparents and other still living relatives we could draw that tree back to 1814 so far- that's 7 generations already!

The weekend after was just a lazy one, I had some friends over for "Zwiewwelkuche un' noie Woi'" - onion cake and new wine... a local speciality to eat in that season. We also played some cards- dirty UNO and I lost so badly....
