Wedding....

Last Friday Miranda and Achim dared to say "I DO" and we were invited to join their celebration.
Unfortunately, there were loads of work last week so that we couldnt leave Zürich till like 8pm and arrived in Grenchen not before 9:30 pm.
Isabella, Olli, Damien and me had a fun time with the bride her husband and other guests - oooh: the buffet was good of course ;-))

Time to say Good-Bye... (again)

The turn-over of doctors is quite high. Another Johannes had his last day of work and Friday and it was really sad to me. We had some fun moments together and I really appreciated his invitation to go out and grab some dinner. We went to a korean restaurant and had fabulous dinner from our table grill.

We also were the only guests in that section of the restaurant and so we did some private karaoke... just the four of us until we got kicked out... ;-))

Today is Sunday and I had to work a little, but after work I wanted to spend some time in the sun. I met Isabella and friends at Lake Zürich and for the first time I went swimming in there... It was a fun day... And after having tried all day long yesterday and today, I finally could do my laundary. There is only one washing machine in the whole house and to get a free not occupied spot is hell... Well, at 10pm there was one... Good to be me ;-)

Saturday was quieter after my Friday Soccer Fest - I went to down-town Zürich and saw kinda three big events paralell: Zürich Enviroment Days, Zürich CSD and Zürich Station Festival... Unfortunately my cell phone was stolen out of my pocket/ shorts!!! Unbelievable and I seem to attract stuff like that- well it sucks a lot but too much madness is not worth is...

Sunday i went to Europapark. Todd and me had a blast. Wonderful wether, really cool rides and water splashes- but the day passed by so quickly...

Yesterday Switzerland played their first match in the FIFA Worldcup - everbody got very excited. That was something new for me cause usually the Swiss are more easy-going and quiet... They reached a 0:0 against France- not the best start but hey, France was worldcup winner in 1998...
Today Germany will play against Poland and of course we ll be sitting in the little Arena again...

Socceroooooos

After out little Soccer match last Friday we sat down by Lake Zürich with another beer and ran into a group of Aussies, Canadians and Brits...
Me and Emma, a nice girl from Sydney, went to Big Ben Pub and had another beer (yes I had headaches the other day...) and ran into a Bachelors Party and drink some KLEINER FEIGLING.
Emma was lucky to get somehow tickets for all group matches of Australia and they won their first match! So excited for the Aussies and for her.... I guess you ll read more about soccer in future...

4:2

Germany versus Costa Rica - That was the opening match of the FIFA Soccer Worldcup and 4:2 the result for Germany .
And not being in Germany doesnt mean you are not infected with the soccer fever... Soccer is everywhere... One of the wards in hospital has all the flaggs of participating countries hanging from the ceiling in the main floor!

At Bellvue square near Lake Zürich, the Swiss built kinda temporary arena to watch the football matches on a huge 50 sqm screen - together with up to 4,500 others... I went there with Johannes and Robert - guys I work with - and I can still tell you today we had one or two beers to much...

Castle Illumination

Last weekend I was also partying near Neckar River in Heidelberg. Of course you can always party - however, pretending there is a reason to celebrate is even more fun.
So this time the reason was Heidelbergs Castle Illumination. Its like three or four times a year in summer (tourist) season. I ve been living almost 6 years in Heidelberg and shame on me have never seen it before... So now, I came back from Zürich to party and see the spectacular lightening and fireworks... It was really cooooool!

Mark Twain visited the castle illumination in the year 1878.

As reminders of big events in Heidelberg history, the fireworks and castle illuminations have a most interesting background: They originated in 1613 when newly-wed Prince Elector Frederic V welcomed his young wife to Heidelberg. The English princess Elizabeth Stuart was received with due respect and a splendid event. The castle was illuminated by bright colors, and star balls were to be seen high above the Neckar River. Today, the star balls highlight the Heidelberg summer.

If the French General Melac and his troops had not destroyed and burned down Heidelberg Castle over 300 years ago, perhaps it would never have achieved the fame it enjoys today as the most beautiful and romantic castle in the world. In memory of this fateful event, the castle illuminations are now held several times each year. The castle walls turns blood red in the glow of torches and a huge, brilliant fireworks display is launched from the Old Bridge, bathing the entrance to the Neckar valley in a stunning panoply of light and colour. It's a spectacular event that attracts thousands of visitors each year from far and wide.

Sunday was a nice little breakfasty brunch at Liz with her family and friends and we had the blast playing sharades...
